The Tulip House is the life work of the late world traveler, designer, long-time Bass Lake shopkeeper, and eccentric, Jill Cooley. This enchanting home blends a myriad of influences into a very charming and fascinating cottage, a hobbit house, a gypsy caravan. Yet, there is a nod to mid-century modern artist, Piet Mondrian; beautiful tile work reminiscent of the Alhambra; an interesting mix of the San Francisco Victorian homes and wood carvings from Bali; as well as homespun quilting expressed in unique tile and wood combinations. There are carved doors, whimsical window trims, and each bathroom boasts its own ambiance. There is the African bathroom, the Moorish bathroom, and the rickrack bathroom. The floor in each room has a different mix of wood elements, and the walls are covered with a half century of art, collected one piece at a time, and one hallway is filled with the family story in photos. The kitchen is a huge family room, a place of smells and laughter. The living room has a gas fireplace, and is a space for watching movies, listening to music, or reading a book. The main floor bedroom offers serenity and peace. The upstairs is like a comfy den of recliners, sofa, a queen and a twin bed; a loft within the home. Charming, unique, and unforgettable is the Tulip House.
